Restricting item population modes other than "Scan Item" in DC (From Ticket)

Ref. Ticket: https://care.ginesys.in/a/tickets/351887

Module:

Ginesys HO --> Admin --> Security --> User --> User Profile --> Add/Edit --> S&D --> "Allow selection of item other than scanning in Delivery Challan (Adhoc)" check box

Ginesys HO --> Sales & Distribution --> Operations --> Packing --> Delivery (Adhoc)

Background:

  • In User Profile, we currently have an option via which item population methods in a DC(Adhoc) can be restricted to "Scan Item" only

  • This feature ensures employees scan each item during DC creation, preventing shortcuts and promoting accuracy, which is especially important for brands.

Problem Statement:

  • Despite this restriction, users can still manipulate the quantity of items after they are populated into the grid

  • This behavior defeats the overall purpose of this option i.e. users can manipulate the qty. of items and bypass the SOP of scanning each and every item while a DC is being created

Proposed Solution:

  • To maintain the integrity of the scanning process, the ability to edit item quantities after they are populated in the DC should be restricted when this option is selected.

Challenges:

  • Historical Context: This option has been available in Ginesys for a long time, and there is no comprehensive functional requirements (FR) document explaining the logic behind allowing quantity edits. This makes understanding the original intent challenging.

  • Client Impact: Many clients have been using this option for years. Changing the functionality abruptly could cause significant issues for these clients.

  • Error Handling: Currently, there is no way to undo or delete specific quantities if extra items are scanned by mistake. Restricting quantity edits might require users to rescan entire batches if errors occur, which could be cumbersome.

Next Steps:

We need to carefully brainstorm and consider all aspects before implementing any changes to ensure we address the problem without creating new issues for our clients.
